What is chicken fall wind?
Chickens with windstroke (also known as chickens with weak legs/chills/stroke) are a phenomenon in which chickens show abnormal symptoms such as: unsteady standing, cramped legs, shaking legs, or falling, etc. In the case of windstroke, chickens’ legs will become weak, making them unable to stand firmly due to bone and joint problems.

To know exactly whether the chicken has a stroke or not, the breeder needs to observe their appearance and actions. Any changes will reflect the chicken’s illness.
- The chicken will easily stagger when walking, stand unsteadily, and cannot move as desired.
- If you walk normally but stop after a few steps, you feel unsteady, tired, have uneven steps or limp.
- If they are fighting chickens, they will often fall and have no strength.
- If severe, the chicken may have one leg paralyzed or be unable to walk.
Causes of chickens falling from the wind
Chickens have weak legs due to many causes, but often come from the following sources:
Newcastle disease, chicken disease
Newcastle disease in chickens, commonly known as chicken rù disease, is characterized by paralysis of the legs. Accompanied by symptoms such as pecking not eating, wheezing, cold feet, red and white mucus nasal discharge, bloating of the crop, thirst and drinking a lot of water, soft and watery crop, constantly moving beak, chickens crane their necks too often to avoid crying, difficulty breathing, phlegm, watery mouth, frequent crying, chickens defecate with feces at first, then have green, watery (stork feces), foamy or bloody feces.
Chickens with high fever and purple combs can die very quickly. Live chickens will have a crooked neck, nervousness, walk around and peck at food. Chickens show high fever of 42.5 – 43.0 degrees Celsius.
Chicken got stroke
If the chicken is hit by a stroke, the blood vessels will be blocked and therefore accompanied by symptoms such as paralysis of the legs and neck. Chickens with a stroke often show signs of stroke or other diseases, similar to crooked mouth, cerebrovascular accident…
Congenital
When chickens are born, their legs are affected, but they are not detected. Then, as they grow up, they begin to show obvious symptoms until we can recognize the abnormality in their legs. To avoid this situation, you should look carefully when buying chickens and choose chickens with good overall condition.
